Brands are marks that may be composed of names or shapes that enable distinguishing the product producers or service providers from each other and that symbolize the properties of their products or services . Brands are like the spokespeople of the product and service providers in front of consumers. Brands are protected for 10 years in countries they are registered to, and the continuance of this protection requires a renewal in every 10 years.
The only authorized body in Turkey for brand registration applications is the Turkish Patent Institute. Natural and legal people in Turkey may apply to Turkish Patent Institute personally or through authorized Brand Representatives. And the people, who have the right to make such an application according to the provisions of the Paris Contract or World Trade Organization Contract, may only make their application through authorized Brand Representatives registered in Turkish Patent Institute.
