Design means the whole or a part of a product or a whole on the product composed of various elements or properties perceived by human senses such as pattern, ornament, line, shape, form, color, texture, material or flexibility. With Industrial Design Registration, the outer appearances of the products may be protected. Only registrable designs are protected. Some designs such as book, music, software are protected under the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works.  The right obtained through this protection about preventing the commercial use of the design by other people without the permit of the owner of the design can both be deterrent and prevent legal costs that may occur in the future.

For example; packages of the products, patterns on these packages, fabric patterns, and models of confectionery products, furniture forms, machine designs, vehicle designs and spare parts of vehicles can be protected with industrial design registration.
